Let’s Round Up the Year with Some Great Success

What an incredible year it has been for the PeterJohn Interior design team! Look below at some of our fabulous highlights, before we round of the last blog of 2023 with a look back on our best design and advice tips from the year.

Our team has worked on a variety of projects, both on an intimate and large scale with many new and returning customers. It has been an incredible busy year and we continue to successfully serve locally as we have done for the last 45 years. Local will always be the main focus of our business, but this year our work has taken us all over the country including Pembrokeshire, Nottingham, Bristol, Broadstairs and central London. These projects have all been via recommendations and repeat customers. A personal favourite project of ours has been at a smart retirement village (Riverstone Kensington) in Kensington.

Sarah Paterson, our in-house design consultant, has this year celebrated 40 years working at PeterJohn Interiors. She is a vital part of our success and is a client favourite. With her eye for detail and positivity, Sarah has a huge amount of skill and is respected industry wide for her knowledge and expertise. We are very lucky to have Sarah as part o our team and we look forward to the next 10 years!

This year, we are proud to announce the introduction of our two newest members of the PeterJohn Family. Tilly and Natalia, both from our Berkhamsted showroom have celebrated the births of their newest family members. We are so happy for both their families and welcome baby Angus and Baby ‘Girl’ into the PJ family.

Charlie, our director, was able to visit many of our clients, suppliers, manufacturers and workrooms personally this year.

“I found it such a valuable use of my time getting to see the finished products in customers’ homes and finding out about the positive experience our clients have had with us as a company. A real highlight was visiting our soft furnishing work room which creates all our curtains, roman blinds and cushions. I was so impressed at the attention to detail and skill when it comes to the hand-stitching of the items. A truly fantastic team of friendly makers who take such pride in their work to create the most wonderful results”.

Peter and Charlie were lucky enough to spend a few days cruising around Europe as part of the Luxflex serenity programme which allowed them to spend some valuable time with one of our main suppliers. It gave them the chance to chat with other retailers, discussing the challenges faced, successes had and things to look forward to in the next few years. A massive thank you to the Luxaflex team for being incredible hosts.

We helped you incorporate Feng Shui into your home

We have all heard the term Feng Shui, but many of us don’t fully understand the principles and practices that come with adopting this lifestyle. Feng Shui has been traced back through ancient Chinese practices to around 960 B.C.

When incorporated, this practice can have a tremendously positive impact on your life and the life of those around you. Feng Shui begins with the art of arranging objects around you to support the flow of Chi – a force that permeates all areas of life.

Wind and water – translated from Feng and Shui are elements that are associated with good health in Chinese culture. Decorating your home using this practice will help to enhance aspects of your life by syncing you with the environment and inviting energy into your home.

Feng Shui works with five elements and a pattern called the Bagua map. This will help to guide the placement of your furniture and decoration within your home.

Wind – partnerships and knowledge

Water – career and flowing

Fire – passion and fame

Wood – vitality and wealth

Metal – efficiency and beauty

The key to this practice is to balance the five elements above when using them for decoration in your home. Each element symbolises a certain quality (shown above), and to live the most fulfilling life, you must keep these elements in balance with each other.

Most interior design that incorporates this practice use chimes, plants and indoor water to manipulate the energy. Decluttering and minimalist living can also help to focus energies.

We helped you design your baby nursery

Designing a nursery for your little one is an exciting and joyful experience. It’s a space where your baby will spend a significant amount of time, so creating a comfortable and visually appealing environment is important.

With the help of an Aylesbury interior design company like PeterJohn Interiors, you can transform your nursery into a beautiful and functional space that meets all your needs. In this article, we will provide you with valuable insights and tips on designing the perfect nursery for your bundle of joy.

When designing a baby nursery, it’s crucial to prioritise functionality and safety. Consider the following factors to create a nurturing environment:

  • Choose furniture that is safe, durable, and practical. A crib, changing table, and storage solutions are essential.
  • Optimise the layout to ensure easy movement and accessibility to all the necessary areas of the nursery.
  • Install appropriate lighting to create a soothing ambiance. Use blackout curtains or blinds to control the amount of natural light.
  • Select a calming and gender-neutral colour palette. Soft pastels or neutral tones are popular choices.
  • Incorporate ample storage options to keep baby essentials organised and easily accessible.
  • Ensure electrical outlets are covered, cords are secured, and furniture is anchored to the wall to prevent accidents.
